IRVING PARK — California Park is home to some of the Chicago Park District's most unique amenities, including an indoor ice rink and indoor tennis courts, but it's missing something commonly found at a lot of other parks — an advisory council.

That's about to change, with an initial meeting to form a park advisory council set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at McFetridge Sports Center, 3843 N. California Ave.

Advisory councils typically serve as the liaison between a park's users, surrounding community members and the Park District. They engage in fundraising for services and programs, host activities ranging from spring cleanups to Easter egg hunts, address concerns and weigh in on projects slated for the park.

With California Park about to become a key connector along the hoped-for continuous riverfront bike path, there is already one development for the council to oversee.

Learn more about council's goals at Tuesday's meeting, sign up to become a member and vote on the council's first slate of officers.

The Irving Park East Neighborhood Association is spearheading the council's creation. For more information, email info@irvingparkeast.com.
