BUDLONG WOODS — Two people were arrested in connection with last Friday's shooting in the Budlong Woods area of Lincoln Square, according to a community alert sent Monday evening by Ald. Pat O'Connor (40th).

The incident happened at 6:45 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Balmoral Avenue, police said.

Police said an 18-year-old man "sustained a gunshot wound to the left cheek during an armed robbery attempt." He was transported in stable condition to St. Francis Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center, in Evanston.

According to new details shared by O'Connor Monday, the victim was shot during a struggle and two people were later arrested. He said the attack was a "robbery."

"One adult and one juvenile were arrested while fleeing the scene in a red vehicle. Subjects were transported to the Area North Detectives Division for further investigation," O'Connor said.

No other details were released.

The Lincoln (20th) Police District is routinely described as among the safest in Chicago.

"Nothing ever happens" in the area of the attack, neighbors posted to social media after the incident.

"I cannot stress enough that the 20th District is absolutely last in any reported crime in the city," district Cmdr. Sean Loughran told residents following a burst of violent crime in early 2016.

Loughran did not have any comment on Friday's shooting, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

The next CAPS meeting for Beat 2011, where the shooting occurred, is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 3 at the police district's headquarters, 5400 N. Lincoln Ave.

The boundaries for Beat 2011 are Foster, Western and Peterson Avenues and the North Shore Channel.
