CHICAGO — The Oriole Park Advisory Council is holding an open dance party for neighborhood families to help fund park programs, the group announced.

The Family Spring Fling Dance will bring a DJ to the Oriole Park field house, 5340 N. Olcott Ave., to play music geared toward kids of all ages.

Entrance is free, but pizza, candy and soft drinks will be sold at the event, according to the announcement. Attendees can also buy raffle tickets to win toys and othe prizes.

Families will also be able to cross the street to the Oriole Park Public Library, where they'll be able to make arts and crafts.

"Limited government funding" has led the council to seek outside dollars for park programs like basketball, flag football and arts and crafts classes, said Liz Dechant, the group's president.

“We know families want to unwind and have fun together out of the house,” Dechant was quoted as saying in the announcement. “At the same time ... it is essential that we think outside the box to identify ways to raise the money necessary to maintain our parks and programs.”

The event will run from 2-4 p.m. Saturday.
