
DOWNTOWN — Labrador retrievers are top dog in Chicago, according to new rankings.
Labs were the most popular dog breed in Chicago last year, but French bulldogs are gaining ground on them, according to purebred rankings from the American Kennel Club. The AKC used data from people who register their pets with the club to determine the rankings.
The lab has been the No. 1 dog in Chicago for years and has been the most popular breed throughout the country for 26 years, according to the AKC.
But French bulldogs are gaining ground in the city, moving from the No. 3 spot in 2015 to the No. 2 spot this year. They knocked German shepherds to the No. 3 spot.
