Jawon Carter, Lavelle Cox Killed In Grand Boulevard Shooting; 2 Wounded

CHICAGO — A shooting near the border of Grand Boulevard and Washington Park killed two men and wounded two others early Friday, police said.

At 1:58 a.m., the victims were in the 100 block of East 51st Street when a gray, four-door Chevy pulled up and someone inside the car fired shots at the victims, police said. Officers found all the victims in the gas station vestibule.

A 24-year-old man was shot multiple times in his torso and legs and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Another 24-year-old man was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.

Jawon Carter, of the 1400 block of East 65th Street, and Lavelle Cox, of the 4300 block of South Deabrorn Street, were pronounced dead at 2:55 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Autopsies showed the men died from multiple gunshot wounds in homicides.

A 25-year-old man was shot multiple times in his legs and had his head grazed by a bullet, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. A 64-year-old man was shot once in his leg and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

The circumstances of the shooting were still under investigation, police said.

The shooter drove away and no one was in custody.
