HYDE PARK — The Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company will open its three-day run of “Iolanthe” in Hyde Park on Friday.

The company will hold performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mandel Hall, 1131 E. 57th St., on the University of Chicago campus.

For its 33rd year, the local company will tackle the satire of the late 19th Century English politics through the love story of the son of a fairy queen and a woman desired by every man in England’s House of Lords.

Matthew Peckham plays Strephon and Teaira Burge plays Phyllis, with Matthan Black as the Lord Chancellor, Marissa Simmons as Iolanthe and Claire DiVizio as the fairy queen.

Tickets are $25 for general admission and $5 for students and are available on the University of Chicago’s box office website or by calling 773-702-2787.
