DOUGLAS — Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said Friday he’s learned his lesson about taking his high blood pressure medication on an empty stomach.
Johnson, 56, nearly collapsed at a press conference on Jan. 27 and was taken to Christ Hospital.
On Friday, Johnson said he’s feeling good.
“Don’t I look great?” Johnson said after a Friday press conference at police headquarters, 3510 S. Michigan Ave. “I feel a lot better, I learned my lesson.”
Johnson said on Jan. 27 that his light-headedness was because he went against his doctor’s orders and took his high blood pressure medication on an empty stomach. He said it was unrelated to his chronic kidney disease.
He said his fiancé, Lt. Nakia Fenner, told him over the weekend how she felt about it.
“I got chewed out all weekend, so I don’t want to revisit that,” Johnson said.
Though unrelated, Johnson’s dizzy spell prompted him to come out publicly about the kidney disease he’s had for 32 years and his need for a new kidney.
