WOODLAWN — The William Hill Center for the Arts and the University of Chicago will give two artists $2,000 each to paint new murals on the 64th Street railroad underpass.

The Hill Center and the university are currently holding a call for artists to submit ideas by Feb. 13 for the underpass.

The two selected artists will be expected to take ideas from the community and translate it into a piece of artwork for the underpass that neighbors can help paint.

According to the application, the work would ideally start after the last snowfall in early May and wrap up in August.

Preference will be given to artists working on the South Side who have done public art before and have a track record of teaching and working in the community.

The application deadline on Wednesday was extended to Monday from Feb. 6.

Full details of how to apply are available on the South East Chicago Commission’s website.
