KELVYN PARK — A Northwest Side alderman's home was burglarized Monday evening.

Ald. Milly Santiago (31st), who lives in the 3000 block of North Kolmar Avenue, returned home from a ward night around 6:50 p.m. to find her door open and her home burglarized, according to her office and police.

The burglars raided Santiago's second-floor bedrooms, stealing jewelry and other belongings, the alderman said in a prepared statement issued late Tuesday.

"My family feels violated and threatened as anyone would," she said in the statement. "Thankfully no one was harmed. Police officers from the 25th District responded accordingly."

The statement went on, saying, "Sadly this is happening in downtown, the neighborhoods, and throughout the whole city. I am no different than anyone else."

The alderman, whose ward covers parts of Logan Square, Hermosa and Belmont Cragin, thanked Chicago Police Cmdr. Escamilla with the Grand Central Police District for working to keep the community safe.

She also pledged to continue to work with local police on efforts to encourage residents to attend CAPS meetings and form relationships with officers.

Police said no one is in custody and detectives are investigating.
