OLD TOWN — The Lincoln Park rock tosser has struck again, smashing the storefront window of a business in the very same Old Town building hit the night before.

Laura Shepherd, owner of Swerve Salon, 1350 N. Wells St., said Friday that she got reports from clients living in the area that her front window had been shattered shortly after midnight.

Pure Barre, at the same address, had its front door smashed by a rock the night before, after its front window was cracked earlier in the week.

"Same exact thing," Shepherd said. "It was the same-style rock, the same everything. They put it through the window. It shattered our whole window, and they were gone.

"People were on the street, and no one saw him," Shepherd added.

The rock found inside Swerve Salon was strikingly similar to ones used in previous acts of vandalism in Old Town and Lincoln Park.

Shepherd said police officers were quick to respond.

"They came out," she said. "They looked at it. They said the same thing: 'Wow, this is happening up and down the area.'"

The Josh Moulton Fine Art Gallery, 2218 N. Clark St., was hit twice last month, and was joined by a handful of other merchants victimized the second time it happened.

A bridal boutique at Clark Street and Belden Avenue was hit earlier this week, as well as a women's shop just north of Clark and Diversey Pkwy.

Security cameras caught a man throwing rocks on Diversey last month, again just after midnight, but so far the vandal has eluded capture.

According to the Chicago Police Department, one of the Near North District's burglary teams is investigating the recent incidents and "trying to determine if it is a pattern. Currently no one is in custody."
