UPTOWN — Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) wants residents to stand in solidarity with immigrants and refugees at this year's Lunar New Year's Parade on Argyle Street.

From 1-2:30 p.m. on Feb. 4, the community will celebrate the Year of the Rooster with the Lunar New Year parade near the Argyle Red Line Station, 1118 W. Argyle St., according to a newsletter from Osterman.

"We always welcome all neighbors to participate, and this year the open-armed welcome is even more significant," he said, adding the parade was not only a celebration of the new year, "but also a celebration of the diversity, unity, and solidarity with immigrants and refugees in our community — United on Argyle."

The event organized by the 48th Ward Office, Uptown United and businesses and residents of the Argyle Street area will feature floats, music, lion and dragon dancers, according to the newsletter.

"Argyle Street's vibrant and culturally rich feel is due to great investment and hard work from Southeast Asian immigrants and refugees," Osterman said.

The parade will head east along Argyle Street turning at Sheridan Road to head south. From Sheridan Road, it will move west along Ainslie Street turning onto Broadway, where it will head north returning to Argyle Street.

There is no parking along the parade route and cars will be towed and ticketed, the newsletter said.
