RIP Disposable Bags: Surgical Science Museum Has A Killer Reusable Tote

By Patty Wetli | February 1, 2017 2:43pm

GOLD COAST — The city's new tax on disposable checkout bags has Chicagoans reaching for reusable totes.

Allow us to suggest this killer bag from the International Museum of Surgical Science, 1524 N. Lake Shore Dr.

[International Museum of Surgical Science]

Coincidentally or not, an offer for a free tote with museum membership (starting at $35 for students) landed in our in-box the same day the bag tax took effect. The bags are also available in the museum's gift shop for $15.

That skull on the tote isn't just for decoration, by the way — it depicts an object from the museum's collection of artifacts from the history of medicine.

The picture is of a "trephined" skull, the result of an early form of surgery where a hole was bored into the patient's skull.

And here we thought a 7-cent tax was painful.
