HYDE PARK — Two people grabbed a University of Chicago student’s cell phone and ran to a waiting car Wednesday night, according to U. of C. police.

University police sent out an alert to campus on Thursday for people to be on the lookout for two people allegedly involved in the 7 p.m. robbery Wednesday on the 5500 block of South Woodlawn Avenue.

The student was walking near the university’s alumni house, 5555 S. Woodlawn Ave., when two people came up and grabbed the student’s cell phone and ran to a waiting white Nissan sedan with temporary Illinois plates and drove off, according to university police.

University police were not able to provide a description of one of the people, but described the other as a wearing an orange hoodie with hair in dreadlocks.

The student was not injured in the robbery.

University police cautioned people to be mindful about how they use their cell phones in public.
