DOWNTOWN — Big hair, bizarre uniforms, strange music: The 1970s had them all.
Ricky Cobb hopes to capture all of the 1970s' highlights at his uber-popular site "Super 70s Sports."
"I love the 1970s, the hairstyles, clothing, music, etc.," said Cobb, an assistant professor of sociology at Moraine Valley Community College. "I was born in 1971, so it was a natural fit for me to tweet about retro sports."
Super 70s Sports' Twitter account has nearly 70,000 followers. Cobb also runs a website that features him interviewing sports figures like Dan Issel, Dale Murphy and Al Bernstein.
Most of what Cobb posts on Twitter is from the 1970s, but it sometimes bleeds into the 1980s and beyond. The common denominator, he said, is that his posts "cut through socioeconomic status, political beliefs and vocation."
"If you want to get people who otherwise have little in common to join together, just post a GIF of Walter Payton running over a defensive back," Cobb said.
