Robbers Using Social Media To Meet Up With, Steal From North Side Victims

CHICAGO — Robbers are using social media to arrange meetings and then steal from victims, police said.

In two recent robberies, a thief contacted a person through a social media website and set up a meeting with a future victim at the victim's home, according to a Chicago Police community alert. Once the thief got to the victim's home, he took out a weapon and robbed the person.

The robberies occurred:

• 2 a.m. Tuesday in the 3100 block of North Central Park

• Midnight Thursday in the 3000 block of North Neva

The robber or robbers was described as a black man who was 25-35 years old, 6-foot to 6-foot-2 tall and 170-190 pounds, police said. He had short, black hair and a medium complexion.

Anyone with information about the robberies was asked to call police at 312-744-8263.
