HYDE PARK — Five cars were badly damaged in Hyde Park early Sunday morning when a car crashed into parked cars and then drove off.

A driver hit and badly damaged five cars at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, pushing them up onto the curb on the 5300 block of South Hyde Park Boulevard, according to people whose cars were hit and police.

Davina Martin of South Shore said she was at a friend’s house when the police rang the buzzer to tell her there had been an accident.

Martin said police told her that a driver had side-swiped five cars on the block and then turned east and abandoned their car nearby.

Police were not immediately able to provide details and said the responding officer had not yet filed a report on the crash.

Martin said she was told by police that no one was injured, but was unsure whether anyone had been arrested.

The driver could not have gotten too far. Photos of the damage show a wheel from the driver’s car among the wreckage.

Martin said her car, the middle in the line of five, was so damaged she would be stuck taking the bus for the near future and the cars behind hers were totaled.

It remains unclear whether anyone has been arrested in relation to the accident.
