HUMBOLDT PARK — Police have made an arrest in the Humboldt Park armed robbery that ended in rape in early December.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with one felony count of aggravated criminal sexual assault with a firearm, according to a Chicago police alert issued late Friday.

Police did not release his name because he is a minor.

The crime happened Dec. 14 just before 4 a.m.

The victims — a 30-year-old man and 23-year-old woman — were sitting in a parked car in the 2700 block of West Crystal Street when a group of four gunmen, including the 16-year-old boy, came up to them and demanded their belongings, police said.

The boy hit the woman in the head with a handgun and then forced her into the backseat of the car, where he raped her, according to police. The boy and the other three gunmen then got into their car and drove off.

After the crime, neighbors were on high alert, with many of them saying the quiet block doesn't see nearly as much violence as it did 20 years ago. One neighbor said, "It's always been gun violence. But, growing up here, it's never been rapes."

Police were able to make the arrest after detectives issued a community alert hours after the crime.

The investigation is ongoing as police search for the remaining three gunmen.

No further information was released.
