LOGAN SQUARE — Logan Square was hit with an armed robbery and a carjacking within 15 minutes of each other late Wednesday evening, but police have not determined any connection between the two crimes.

At 11:35 p.m., a 34-year-old woman was walking to her car, which was in an alley in the 2800 block of West Shakespeare Avenue, when a teenage boy attacked her, according to Chicago police. There was a struggle, which ended with the boy taking her keys and driving off in her car.

The woman had a minor injury, and was treated on the scene by the Chicago Fire Department.

Neighbor Erika Chavez said she heard the woman screaming "stop" and "please" very loudly for about 30 seconds.

"When I arrived at my back window, I saw [one of] the suspect[s] driving away in a mini-SUV at high speeds with the trunk door propped-up," Chavez told DNAinfo in an email.

Just 14 minutes later, at 11:49 p.m., a 46-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were walking westbound in an alley in the 3400 block of West Dickens Avenue when three men came up to them, took out a handgun and demanded their belongings, according to Chicago police.

The robbers made off with the man's cell phone and then ran off southbound down Kimball Avenue.

Police said while there is no known connection between the two crimes as of Friday afternoon, the district is continuing to investigate.

No one is in custody for either crime.

Last year, robberies in the Shakespeare Police District hit a four-year high, according to Chicago Police Department data. The district includes Logan Square, as well as parts of Humboldt Park, Avondale, Wicker Park and Bucktown.
