DOWNTOWN — There were times when Chicago's Inauguration Day protests weren't so peaceful.

DNAinfo followed the massive protest that largely shut down Chicago's Downtown on Friday night, recording police and activists' steps along the way.

At times the protests were jovial, with the crowd dancing to club music.

At other times protesters flipped over trash cans, smashed the entrance to a Michigan Avenue bank, and in one instance police took down a woman carrying a flare to the pavement.

Someone driving a Porsche nearly ran over a protester on Michigan Avenue.

Crowds splintered throughout the night, keeping police on their toes with sudden moves in direction. One group largely stayed near Trump Tower, while others marched throughout the Loop and River North. Some protesters shut down Lake Shore Drive at various times throughout the night.

Police scrambled incessantly to curtail protesters aiming to shut down traffic.

Sixteen protesters were arrested as a result of Friday's protests, Chicago Police said. Charges range from disorderly and reckless conduct to aggravated battery, police said.
