DOWNTOWN — Chicago Police Department officials are "looking into" sightings of a hat featuring the "Make America Great Again" slogan propped on the dashboard of a police vehicle assigned to monitor the Inauguration Day protests at Daley Center.
Police Department spokesman Frank Giancamilli said department officials had not heard about the sighting of the cap in the police vehicle until contacted by DNAinfo Friday afternoon after a photo surfaced on Twitter.
A supervisor sent to examine the SUV reported that the hat had been removed before the car was examined, Giancamilli said.
President Donald Trump repeated the slogan at the close of his inaugural address, which he also used to cap off all of his campaign rallies. During his campaign, he sold thousands of the hats, which became ubiquitous at his events.

No. 42 of the Police Department's Rules of Conduct prohibit uniformed officers from "participating in any partisan political campaign or activity."
A spokesman for the police union, the Fraternal Order of Police, could not immediately be reached.
Thousands of protesters in Chicago flocked Downtown Friday night to Trump Tower. More are expected on Saturday.
