Robbers Target Men, Sometimes Beating Them, In 7 Douglas Robberies: Police

CHICAGO — A group of thieves have robbed men at least seven times since October in Douglas, police said.

During the robberies, a group of two or three men or teens walked up to and robbed a man or men walking outside, according to a Chicago Police news release.

During two robberies, the robbers stopped their victims and told them to hand over their property, police said. When the victims didn't comply, the robbers punched the victims in their faces, kicked them or grabbed and held them.

The thieves have grabbed at victims' pockets, taking cellphones and accessories, police said. They've also taken backpacks off their victims' shoulders and dumped them out so they could look for "items of value," police said.

The men then run away, police said.

The robberies occurred:

• 9 p.m. Oct. 16 in the 3000 block of South King Drive

• 6:45 p.m. Oct. 18 in the 3000 block of South King Drive

• 6 p.m. Oct. 31 in the 300 block of East 31st Street

• 6:30 p.m. Oct. 31 in the 2900 block of South Indiana Avenue

• 6:05 p.m. Nov. 16 in the 3000 block of South King Drive

• 2:45-4 a.m. Dec. 18 in the 2800 block of South King Drive

• 5 p.m. Monday in the 2900 block of South King Drive

In the Oct. 16 incident, police said the robbers were three men who were black, 18-22 years old, 5-foot-6 to 6-foot and weighed 155-175 pounds.

In the Oct. 18 incident, police said the robbers were three men who were black, 14-18 years old, 5-foot-8 and weighed 120-160 pounds.

In the Oct. 31 incident police said the robbers were two men who were black, 15-17 years old, 5-foot-8 and weighed 140-150 pounds.
