Synagogue Tackling Climate Change At Food Justice Weekend

KENWOOD — K.A.M. Isaiah Israel is tackling climate change for its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Food Justice and Sustainability Weekend.

The weekend of free workshops and lectures mixing social justice and environmental topics kicks off Jan. 13.

At 7:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at the synagogue, 1100 E. Hyde Park Blvd., Director of Fresh Taste, Karen Lehman will open the weekend with a lecture titled “Earth, We've Got You Covered: Food System Resilience In the Context Of Climate Change.”

Jan. 14 brings together experts on landscaping and gardening at 4:30 p.m. to lead a workshop on designing a sustainable food garden.

The weekend wraps up on Jan. 15 with a full day of workshops starting at 10 a.m. on everything from lead contamination to beekeeping and soil microbes in an era of rapid climate change.

All events are free and open to the public, but registration is encouraged for events that include a complimentary lunch.
