HUMBOLDT PARK — Soon there will be two huge climbing gyms on the Northwest Side.

First Ascent is planning to open an 18,000-square-foot gym, its third in the city, in a Humboldt Park warehouse at 2950 W. Grand Ave. in spring of 2017, the company announced on its website.

The new gym will offer 10,000 square feet of bouldering terrain up to 16 feet tall, fitness classrooms and cardio and weight equipment. There will be locker rooms, an indoor parking garage and a shop to buy climbing gear, among other amenities.

It comes after opening gyms in Avondale and Uptown in 2015. The Humboldt Park gym will be First Ascent's second largest behind the massive 25,000-square-foot Avondale facility.

Chicagoist was first to notice the announcement.
