14 Shot In Chicago Since Sunday Morning

CHICAGO — Fourteen people were shot between late Sunday morning and late Monday morning, 14 people, including a man who was killed by an off-duty officer weeks following a confrontation.

In addition to the police-involved shooting, here are descriptions of other shootings that occurred in Chicago:

• A 20-year-old man was accidentally shot at 9:32 a.m. Monday in his right hand by someone he knew while in the 300 block of South Homan Ave. in East Garfield Park, according to police. The man took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital.

• Two people, a 21-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, were shot while in a car traveling west in the 2500 block of West 55th Street in Gage Park around 1:40 a.m. A white Nissan Murano with three males inside pulled aside and someone in the back seat shot at them. The man was shot in his right hand and the woman was shot in her right shoulder. Both declined transportation to the hospital.

The male victim is a documented gang member, police said.

• Three men were injured in an apparent gang-related drive-by shooting in the 0 to 100 block of S. Leamington Avenue in Austin. The shooting occurred at 10:55 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

The men were on the street when someone in a passing car shot in their direction.

A 36-year-old man was sent to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition after being shot multiple times. A 31-year-old man was grazed in his head and taken to Stroger. A 19-year-old man was shot in his buttocks and right arm and taken to Stroger.

• A 48-year-old woman was shot in both legs and her buttocks while inside an apartment in the 4100 block of West 15th Street in North Lawndale. Unknown people fired shots penetrating her door with bullets that struck her around 9:40 p.m. She was sent to Mount Sinai.

• A 16-year-old boy was injured while in the 100 block of North Wolcott Ave. at 7:28 pm., police said. The boy, who was standing on the corner when someone fired shots from inside a passing sedan, was shot in his right hand and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Police initially said a 12-year-old boy was also treated for a graze wound, but later said he was not injured in any way in the incident.

• A 31-year-old man was shot in his hand while on a sidewalk in the 13000 block of South Evans Avenue in Riverdale at 3:30 p.m. The man took himself to Roseland Hospital after the incident in which he heard multiple gunshots, according to police.

• At 2:35 p.m. in the 6700 block of South Indiana Avenue in Greater Grand Crossing, a 19-year-old man was shot in his left leg and back. He took himself to Saint Bernard Hospital and was transferred to Stroger, police said.

The man was entering a car when two male gunmen in a passing car shot in his direction.

• A 17-year-old boy was shot in his right leg while walking on the sidewalk in the 5300 block of South Fairfield Avenue in Gage Park Sunday afternoon. Shots were fired at him around 1:40 p.m. from a passing black Nissan that had three or four people inside.

• A 15-year-old boy was shot in his right leg while in a Washington Heights alley Sunday afternoon, according to police. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center following the incident, which police say occurred at 12:06 p.m. Police have not ruled out that the gunshot may have been self-inflicted.

• A shooting in Austin left a 27-year-old man shot in his left shoulder, both hands and buttocks. The man, who was driving in the 5100 block of West North Avenue, was shot at 11:16 a.m. and taken to Stroger in good condition.

Two persons of interest in the investigation of that shooting are being questioned after being taken in custody following a crash in Oak Park.
