Shootings Kill 4 People, Wound 24 Since Saturday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Shootings have killed four people and wounded 24 since Saturday, police said. The shootings include the last homicide of 2016 on New Year's Eve and the first reported homicides of 2017 early Sunday morning.

In fatal shootings:

• Most recently, at 5:53 a.m., a 39-year-old man was shot to death in West Garfield Park, police said.

Officers found the man lying on the ground in the 4600 block of West Monroe Street. The man had been hit multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

• At 4:25 a.m., two men were shot to death in Uptown, the first reported homicides of 2017.

• At 12:29 p.m. on Saturday, a 24-year-old man was shot to death in Austin, police said.

The man was driving in the 4800 block of West Chicago Avenue when a Mercedes sideswiped his vehicle, police said. The driver of the Mercedes got out of the vehicle and began arguing with the 24-year-old before pulling out a gun and shooting the man in the left side, police said.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Kenneth Weave, 23, of the 900 block of South Drake.

The man was a documented gang member and convicted felon, police said.

In non-fatal shootings:

• Most recently, at 5:30 a.m. Sunday a 52-year-old man was shot in Back of the Yards, police said. The man was in his home in the 4800 block of South Racine Avenue when gunfire went through his window and hit him in the right leg, police said.

The man was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, police said.

• At 3:55 a.m., a 26-year-old man was shot Englewood, police said. The man was in a vehicle in the 200 block of West 63rd Street when three people got out of another car and fired shots at him, police said.

The man was grazed in the head and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.

• At 3:46 a.m., three people were shot in Morgan Park, police said.

Police found a 19-year-old shot in the lower right side of his back in the 11200 block of South Longwood Drive. The man was transported to Christ Medical Center and his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

Police who responded to the shooting found two other men shot, who told police they were shot in the same area as the 19-year-old. A 21-year-old man was hit in the throat and taken to Christ Medical Center in critical condition, police said. A 20-year-old man was hit in the left shoulder in taken to Christ Medical Center and his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

No further details were available at this time, police said.

• At 2:30 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in Brainerd, police said. The man was entering his home in the 9200 block of South Parnell Avenue when a black sedan drove past and someone inside fired shots, police said.

The man was hit in his right leg and taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital. His condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

• At 2:20 a.m., a 26-year-old woman was shot in Englewood, police said. The woman was getting out of a vehicle in the 200 block of West 71st Street when another vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots, police said.

The woman was hit in the left arm and taken to St. Bernard hospital in good condition, police said. 

• At 2:15 a.m., a 29-year-old woman was shot in Roseland, police said. The woman was with a group of people on the sidewalk in the 9500 block of South State Street when someone began shooting at them, police said.

The woman was grazed in the left leg and was treated at the scene but did not seek additional medical attention, police said.

• At 2:13 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in Bronzeville, police said. The man was in the 200 block of East 39th Street when he heard shots and felt pain, police said.

He was grazed in the eyebrow and taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

• At 2:00 a.m., three people were shot at a house party in Bronzeville, police said. An unidentified man entered the party in the 4400 block of South Indiana Avenue and opened fire.

A 20-year-old man was hit in his left hand and taken to Mercy Hospital in good condition, police said. A 31-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man were both hit in the chest, and both were taken to Stroger Hospital where their conditions were not available but they were listed as "stable," police said.

• At 1:41 a.m., a 23-year-old woman was shot in the Near West Side, police said. The woman was sitting in a car in the 2300 block of West Jackson Boulevard when a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots, police said.

The woman was hit in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital, where her condition was not available but she was listed as "stable," police said.

• At 1:05 a.m., two men were shot in Belmont Cragin, police said. The men were in the 5500 block of West Drummond Place when a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots at them, police said.

A 21-year-old man was hit in the chest and taken to Loyola Hospital in serious condition and a 19-year-old was hit in the back and also taken to Loyola Hospital where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

• At 11:20 p.m., on Saturday, two people were shot in Humboldt Park, police said. A 23-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were standing on a porch in the 900 block of North Karlov Avenue when shots were fired, police said.

The woman was hit in her chest and right hand and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. The man was hit in his right leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

• At 8:35 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in South Shore, police said. The man was in a alley in the 7200 block of South Coles Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain, police said.

The man was hit in his right arm and groin, and was taken to Northwestern Hospital where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

• At 6:17 p.m., a 38-year-old man was shot in Bronzeville, police said. The man was standing outside in the 3700 block of South Wabash Avenue when someone inside a brown sedan fired shots before fleeing, police said.

The man was hit in his right hand and was taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition, police said.

The man was a documented gang member, police said. 

• At 5:31 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot in Back of the Yards, police said. The man was walking in the 4300 block of South Wolcott Avenue when a red vehicle approached him and he heard shots, police said.

The man was hit in the elbow and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.

• At 3:47 p.m., two men were shot in Back of the Yards, police said. The men were outside in the 4400 block of South Marshfield Avenue near a vehicle when a green van approached them and someone inside fired shots, police said.

A 22-year-old man was hit in the buttocks and a 27-year-old man was grazed in the arm, police said. The men took themselves to Stroger Hospital where they were listed in good condition, police said.

• At 1:53 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot in Lawndale, police said. The man was in the 4000 block of West 21st Place when he heard shots and felt pain, police said.

The man was hit in the hip and arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said.

The man was a documented gang member, police said.

• At 12:52 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was shot in Austin, police said. The boy was outside a business in the 5600 block of Corcoran Place when a fight inside spread out into the street, police said.

During the incident a shot was fired and the boy was hit in the abdomen, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said. 

No one was in custody in these shootings, police said.
