CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer recently saved a nearly blind cat when he ran into a street on a "bitterly cold" night, according to a local nonprofit that helps animals in need.

The Critical Animal Relief Foundation (CARF) is now seeking donations for the cat's eye surgery and other medical expenses. The cat, named Warren, has a condition called entropion, in which the eyelid folds inward and rubs against the eyes, causing pain and infections. The condition can cause blindness.

"He'll need surgery to correct this condition so he can live a full and pain free life," the nonprofit wrote on Facebook. "He's really enjoying being inside and warm with access to lots of yummy food."

The officer rescued Warren at 57th and Racine streets in Englewood, according to the nonprofit. Chicago Police didn't immediately provide a comment.

To donate to Warren's medical care, send money via PayPal to carfforanimals@gmail.com.
