HYDE PARK — Pizzeria Da Nella is expanding to Hyde Park this summer, featuring authentic Italian pizza and pasta.

The Lincoln Park Italian restaurant is moving into the University of Chicago’s new residence hall, taking a large corner spot at 1125 E. 55th St., according to a Facebook announcement.

The restaurant from owner Nella Grassano, a native of Naples, Italy, is known for its Neapolitan-style pizza, which keeps the ingredients simple and cooks the pizza in a wood-fired oven.

The Hyde Park menu has not been released yet, but the Lincoln Park location’s menu is long and goes well beyond pizza. Much of the wide selection of pasta, risotto, chicken and fish is expected to be offered at the Hyde Park location as well.

Grassano could not immediately be reached to comment on how the new Hyde Park location would differ from the Lincoln Park spot.

The announcement fills out the another of new university dorm’s five retail spaces, which university officials said they wanted to cater to the community as well as students.

Other new businesses in the Jeanne Gang-designed building include Dollop Coffee Co. and Insomnia Cookies. Timbuk2 and Heritage Bicycles recently shared a storefront for a pop-up shop that has closed.

The Lincoln Park Pizzeria Da Nella serves alcohol. It’s unclear whether Grassano will pursue a liquor license for the Hyde Park location.

The building was designed for outdoor seating, and the restaurant will likely have some patio seating.
