LINCOLN PARK — Banana Republic is opening a new factory store Thursday, just in the St. Nick of time for budget-conscious holiday shopping procrastinators.

With 10 shopping days to Christmas, the Banana Republic Factory Store opens at 10 a.m. at 2720 N. Clark St.

Although Banana Republic always planned for its latest Chicago outlet to be a factory store when it was first announced this summer, it slipped past most shoppers until word broke this fall. Now it's opening right on schedule in winter, just in time for holiday shoppers.

It's the first Banana Republic Factory Store in the city, after most have been in suburban outlet malls. The company made clear it offers a unique array of Banana Republic clothing, not knock-offs and irregular items.

"Banana Republic Factory Store is our value expression, offering the Banana Republic experience at a more value-driven price," company spokeswoman Kari Shellhorn said this fall. "We offer great quality at a great price with unique product, designed, styled and produced specifically for our factory stores by our in-house design team."

Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sundays.

The store occupies the ground floor, while the second floor will soon be the home of the city's first Altschool, opening next fall.
