LINCOLN PARK — Budget-conscious clothing shoppers who've been waiting for a new Banana Republic to open will get a treat ahead of Christmas when the chain opens its factory outlet at 2720 N. Clark St.

Lincoln Park residents have been waiting for months for the store to open since it was announced this summer, but overlooked was the detail that it will be a price-conscious factory store.

"We’re pleased to confirm that Banana Republic Factory Store will open on North Clark Street in mid-December," said Kari Shellhorn, spokeswoman for Gap, the chain's corporate owner.

"Banana Republic Factory Store is our value expression, offering the Banana Republic experience at a more value-driven price point. We offer great quality at a great price with unique product, designed, styled and produced specifically for our factory stores by our in-house design team."

Banana Republic has stores on the Magnificent Mile and in the South Loop and elsewhere in Lincoln Park at 917 W. North Ave., but until now its nearest factory stores were in the suburbs.

The new store is under construction in the former Edge Bar and Grill. Banana Republic will occupy the street level, while the second floor will be the home of the city's first Altschool, a San Francisco-based, technology-oriented, for-profit "micro-school" expected to enroll 100-150 students at an annual tuition of $25,000. It's scheduled to open classes in fall 2017.
