CHICAGO — A 26-year-old man has been charged in the beating and home invasion robbery of a 94-year-old woman in Garfield Ridge earlier this week, police said.

Olajuwon Claiborne, of the 1500 block of East 69th Place, is charged with felony home invasion, felony aggravated battery and felony robbery, according to police.

At 11:52 a.m. on Wednesday, Claiborne followed the elderly woman into her home in the 5100 block of South Long Avenue, where he beat her and took her purse, police said in a news alert.

Claiborne then left the scene in a stolen car, which he then crashed and left in an alley in the 5700 block of South Archer, police said.

The elderly woman was taken to MacNeal Hospital in "stable" condition, police said. She is a World War II veteran and suffered broken ribs, bruises to her face and a possible concussion, according to ABC7 Chicago.

Claiborne was also identified as the offender in two separate robberies and an aggravated battery, police said.

Claiborne was denied bail Sunday, according to the Sun-Times.
