CHICAGO — A 26-year-old man has been charged in the beating and home invasion robbery of a 94-year-old woman in Garfield Ridge earlier this month, according to police.

Chicago Police on Thursday released a photo of Olajuwon Claiborne, who reportedly followed the elderly woman into her home before battering her and stealing her purse then fleeing in a stolen car that he later crashed and abandoned, police said.

Claiborne, of the 1500 block of East 69th Place, is charged with felony home invasion, felony aggravated battery and felony robbery, police said.

At 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, Claiborne followed the elderly woman into her home in the 5100 block of South Long Avenue, where he beat her and took her purse, police said in a community alert.

Claiborne then left the scene in a stolen car, which he then crashed and left in an alley in the 5700 block of South Archer, police said.

The car was reported stolen near the 6200 block of South Francisco Avenue in Chicago Lawn, police said.

The woman was taken to MacNeal Hospital in what police referred to as "stable" condition. She is a World War II veteran who suffered broken ribs, bruises to her face and a possible concussion, according to ABC7 Chicago.

Claiborne was also identified as the offender in two separate robberies and and an aggravated battery, police said.
