CHICAGO — Who doesn't need some greenery and nature in 2017?

On Thursday, paint maker Pantone announced its color of 2017: 15-0343 "Greenery," which the self-described color authority says is "a symbol of new beginnings" and a "refreshing and revitalizing shade" that symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature.

Pantone says its Color of the Year is "a symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude."

Greenery was selected because "the more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world."

A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality, according to Pantone.

Greenery, further described as a "versatile...trans-seasonal” shade that lends itself to many color combinations, chases the dual colors of soon-to-pass 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity — the former a "persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure" and the latter "weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us."

Normally Pantone just announces one color of the year but the year past was apparently special enough to call for two colors.

For 2017, one thing we could all use a little more of: nature.
