UPTOWN — A collective of second-generation Asian-Americans are teaming up to transform a local train station into a holiday market unlike any others for one day only.

From 3-9 p.m. Saturday, Axis Lab and Nuky Pham will transform the Argyle train station into Base Line, a pop-up holiday market featuring "premier arts, food and music ... showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of Chicago's Uptown community," according to the Axis Lab website.

"Base Line arises as a movement to highlight community voices through socially conscious events to promote sustainable and locally based economic and social development," according to its website.

Nuky (or Jennifer) Pham is the daughter of "one of the pioneers of what Argyle Street is today," according to Hac Tran, co-founder of Axis Lab. She is also taking over her father's Mini TX pharmacy, 1069 W. Argyle St., which has been open since 1983, according to Uptown United.

Axis Lab "aims to sustain and build upon the legacy of the Southeast Asian community on Argyle street" through food, design and the arts.

The event will feature music from DJ L O Kari, Elephant Rebellion, DJ David Moon and Manny Garcia. It will also include performances by Monica Cosby of Visible Voices, Silvia Inéz Gonzalez, Michael De Anda Muñiz and 3RD 3Y3, according to a flier for the event.

Food and drinks from Immm Rice and Beyond, Miss Saigon, Little Saigon Baguette and Kie-Gol-Lanee will be sold.

Base Line will also include live art from Natalia Virafuentes and a dance/movement workshop from Ashley Fargnoli beginning at 7 p.m., the flier said.

Base Line is organized by second generation Asian-Americans and the children of refugees, who are building off their families' legacies of "cultivating a new home and dynamic community in the North Side of Chicago since the late 1970s."

Organizations and vendors include Asian Human Services, Red Penguin Furniture, Zerobird Studio, 18th and Wood, Just One Vintage, Ari and Rose Body Care, Dotera Essential Oils, So-ness Boutique, Feathergoods, Sputty Co., Overall Development, Nature's Island Body Care, Sema Graham and Organo.

Base Line was made possible through support from Uptown United, the 48th Ward and the CTA.
