LINCOLN SQUARE — Mash restaurant hasn't been open for a week, its windows covered in brown butcher paper.

What's going on?

Owners aren't saying.

The restaurant, at 4535 N. Lincoln Ave., has been silent on social media — Mash hasn't posted to its Facebook page since April — and DNAinfo's phone calls and emails requesting comment have gone unanswered.

No recent construction permits turned up in a search of the City of Chicago's data portal. Mash's business and liquor licenses are good through 2017.

Fans of the restaurant have been wondering and speculating on social media about Mash, which boasts one of the most popular outdoor patios in Lincoln Square.

The restaurant opened in 2008 as Bad Dog Tavern. In early 2015, owners closed Bad Dog for a month and reintroduced the restaurant as Mash after undertaking a complete makeover.
