LINCOLN SQUARE — Christmas has come early for fans of the Davis Theater.

The movie house, closed since January for a multimillion dollar makeover, will hold its grand reopening Dec. 15, its owners have announced.

The new Carbon Arc restaurant and bar will debut the same day.

The renovation of the nearly 100-year-old Davis, at 4614 N. Lincoln Ave., has been transformational: Decorative touches pay homage to the theater's art deco past while the addition of modern amenities will put the Davis on equal footing with the city's megaplexes.

Among the changes:

• The Davis' four theaters have been condensed into three. Two smaller front theaters feature stadium seating, and the rear third theater has been converted into a glamorous auditorium.

• The bathrooms have been relocated, expanded and thoroughly upgraded.

Programming is expected to include screenings of live sporting events, concerts and theatrical productions like the Metropolitan Opera.

Carbon Arc, a 3,000-square-foot restaurant and bar, will offer patrons a number of options, from quick bites and drinks before shows to full-scale dining.

Before the big reveal, the Davis has teased a few images of the work in progress. Details about the opening are still to come.
