WASHINGTON PARK — Police are searching for men behind two armed robberies Sunday in the Washington Park neighborhood.

Both robberies involved a man with a handgun approaching a person on the street and demanding their valuables.

The first instance was at 6:40 p.m. Sunday on the 300 block of East Garfield Boulevard. It was followed shortly after by another armed robbery at 6:50 p.m. Sunday on the 5600 block of South Martin Luther King Drive.

Both robberies involved at least two men, but police reports said that accounts varied and one witness described a group of six men.

Police said a witness described one of the men as a black man with dreadlocks who was 25 years old, 5-foot-8 to 6 feet tall and 180 to 200 pounds.

Police did not report any injuries in either robbery.

Police are asking anyone with information about either robbery to call the Area Central Bureau of Detectives at 312-747-8382.
