PALMER SQUARE — An ambitious church-turned-condos project in Palmer Square is complete.

For months, Chicago-based developer Property Consultants has been at work converting the historic church at 2900 W. Shakespeare Ave. — most recently occupied by the Greater Garfield Park Missionary Baptist Church — into condos.

The result is 10 two- and three-bedroom modern units with up to 18-foot-tall ceilings, skylights and original details like masonry arches, huge steel trusses and exposed brick.

The developer was also able to convert the church's bell towers into livable space for two of the upper units and salvage the original tin roof, which will tile the lobby.

Other amenities include private balconies, elevator access and modern kitchens with high-end finishes.

To ensure structural integrity throughout, the developer completely gutted the interior and created a super structure of steel, according to Scott Broene, a broker associate with Property Consultants Realty.

"Older architecture like this is such a gem," Bill Senne, president of Property Consultants, previously told DNAinfo Chicago. "It'd be a shame not to reuse it."

Seven of the 10 units within "Sanctuary on the Square" have already been sold or are under contract, according to Broene. The remaining three range in price from $479,900 to $649,900.
