EDISON PARK — The 20th annual Edison Park Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run will raise money to fight hunger, support people with disabilities and improve hospice care, organizers announced.
The race, held every year on Thanksgiving Day, has raised nearly $1 million for various causes since its inaugural run in 1996, according to organizers.
About 5,700 people participated in last year's race, which netted $72,800 for the cancer charity Imerman Angels. Organizers expect a similar number of walkers and runners on Thursday.
This year's race will benefit Avenues to Independence, which organizes resources for people with disabilities; New Hope Community Food Pantry; and Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care.
Anyone can register for the race online for $20; participants can also sign up the morning of the race for $25.
Race packets can be picked up the morning of the event at the Edison Park Field House, 6755 N. Northwest Highway, from 8-9 a.m. The race is scheduled to kick off from the field house at 9:30 a.m.
