EDISON PARK — The Edison Park Turkey Trot raised $72,800 for Imerman Angels, a charity that helps cancer patients by connecting them with people who have survived the same type of cancer, organizers announced.

About 5,700 runners and walkers took part in the 2015 race, which has raised nearly $1 million since the inaugural race in 1996, race organizers said.

Imerman Angels helps cancer patients by connecting them with "mentor angels" who have survived the same type of cancer to "provide support, empathy and understanding" to patients or caregivers, according to the group's website.

The Thanksgiving Day race started at the Edison Park fieldhouse, 6755 N. Northwest Highway, and looped around Edison Park through tree-lined streets.
