EDGEWATER — Despite "typical" construction setbacks over the spring and summer, the new Baker & Nosh Edgewater location is slated to open in early 2017, owner Terry Groff said Tuesday.

Groff and co-owner Bill Millholland also shared updated renderings that show their vision for the storefront at 5600 N. Ridge Ave., including its bakery counter, a variety of communal, group and individual seating options, and sleek black, white and gray accents to bring life to the massive new location.

Groff didn't say which month to expect the bakery's opening, but that it would be early next year.

“We’re very excited to open in the Edgewater neighborhood and are grateful for all of our neighbors who have been following our progress at both locations," he said.

The Edgewater menu will be similar to that at the original location, 1303 W. Wilson Ave. in Uptown, serving baked goods, desserts, soups and sandwiches.

The new menu will include a few additional items, as well as more grab-and-go options.

The bakery announced the new location in January and originally had hoped for an opening sometime in the spring or fall.

The restaurant sat vacant for years after the former El Norte Mexican restaurant closed in 2012, which left residents eager to find out what would set up shop in the corner storefront.

rumor of Trader Joe's possibly taking over the spot was quashed in December when a spokeswoman for the grocer said there were no plans to open in Edgewater in the next few years.

Property records show the building got over $800,000 in renovations to reconfigure the structure into a first-floor multi-tenant retail space with six apartment units above, owned and managed by Cedar St.'s residential counterpart, FLATS Chicago.

In June, owners announced another location in Uptown to replace a shuttered Starbucks at the corner of Wilson and Magnolia.
