9 Dead, 21 Wounded In Chicago Shootings This Weekend

CHICAGO — Weekend violence left nine people dead and 21 wounded in Chicago.

One person was killed and four wounded since Sunday. Before that, shootings left three people dead and 10 wounded between Friday and Saturday, and another five people were dead and seven wounded by early Sunday.

• At 5 p.m. Sunday, a 31-year-old man was shot to death in East Side.

In non-fatal shootings:

• At 8:40 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in Pilsen, police said. The man was walking in the 2100 block of South Wolcott Avenue when someone in a black SUV fired shots at him.

The man was hit in his left leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

The man was a documented gang member, police sources said.

• At 8:20 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot in Roseland, said Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The man was in a car stopped at a traffic light in the first block of East 111th Street when someone walked up and fired shots.

The man was hit multiple times in his right hip and groin, Amezaga said, and he took himself to Roseland Hospital in serious condition. He was going to be transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital.

The man was a documented gang member, police sources said.

• At 8:15 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in Auburn Gresham.

• At 2:25 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in Marquette Park, Amezaga said. The man was sitting in front of a home in the 2500 block of West Lithuanian Plaza Court when someone walked up, fired shots and ran away.

The man was hit in his left arm and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition, Amezaga said.

The man was a documented gang member, police sources said.

No one was in custody in these shootings.
