CHICAGO — Two juveniles have been charged in the fatal shooting of U.S. Rep. Danny Davis' 15-year-old grandson in Englewood Friday night, police said.
A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were each charged with one felony count of murder in the first degree, police said.
At 6:45 p.m., a male and female forced their way into a home in the 5600 block of South Princeton Avenue, said officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesperson.
Davis' grandson confronted the intruders, and the 16-year-old boy then took out a gun and shot him in the head, Estrada said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The two intruders, who police say knew the victim, then fled the home, Estrada said.
"This is another example of a 15-year-old with a gun that he never should have had," Davis told reporters. "I grieve for my family. I grieve for the young man who pulled the trigger. I grieve for his family."
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as Javon Wilson, whom they said is 14 years old. Javon was pronounced dead at 7:32 p.m. Friday.
Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Saturday that the shooting was related to a dispute between the teens over gym shoes.
Bond will be set in court Sunday, a police statement said.
