COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man on parole for armed robbery fatally shot a 25-year-old he believed was driving recklessly through South Chicago, prosecutors said Thursday.

"You allegedly shot someone to death over a minor traffic situation," Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil told 22-year-old Rondale Parker before denying the man bail.

"It just shows: danger, danger, danger," the judge added.

Parker and his brother are accused of confronting Laron McCoy, 25, about 1 p.m. July 5 in the 8000 block of South Burnham Avenue.

According to Assistant State's Attorney Jamie Santini, Parker was mad that McCoy "had been driving his car recklessly" through the neighborhood and on at least one occasion swerved that car close to Parker's brother's car.

The three men began arguing in the street, prosecutors said.

That's when Parker pulled a 9mm gun and shot McCoy, who was unarmed, multiple times at close range, Santini said. McCoy was shot in his head, face, neck and upper leg.

Multiple witnesses were able to identify Parker as the shooter, court records show, and he was arrested on a warrant Tuesday in suburban South Chicago Heights.

Officers searching Parker's jacket found a .40 caliber handgun that had been reported stolen from Indiana, Santini said.

Parker, of suburban Lansing, is charged with first-degree murder, theft and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. He is currently on parole for armed robbery.
