HYDE PARK — A University of Chicago student was punched and robbed after he tried to reason with people trying to rob him, police said.

U. of C. police said the student was walking near 54th Street and Drexel Avenue at 7 p.m. Wednesday, when he was approached by two people who demanded his belongings.

When the student tried to reason with them, they punched him and took his cellphone and wallet before driving west on 54th Street in a white van, campus police said.

Campus police did not provide a description of either of the robbers.

The student declined medical attention for his injuries.
