HYDE PARK — Court Theatre is venturing outside of its Hyde Park home to close its 2016 reading season with a free performance at the South Shore Cultural Center.

The theater will perform a free reading of “Day of Absence” at 3 p.m. Saturday at the cultural center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive.

The satire by Douglas Turner Ward is about a Southern town where the white residents wake to find all the black residents have vanished to their shock and horror.

The reading is directed by Ron O.J. Parson, resident artist at the theater.

Reservations are not required, but seating is limited and priority is given to people who have reserved a seat on the event website.
