BRIDGEPORT — Bernice’s Tavern is now hosting a Monday night fundraiser and donation drive to collect supplies for activists protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline.

For the past several months, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has been protesting at a site on the border of North and South Dakota, trying to derail plans for an oil pipeline natives believe will poison the water supply and destroy tribal lands.

Black Rose Chicago, a political organization, plans to collect donations from Bernice’s, 3238 S. Halsted St., and deliver them to protestors of Sacred Stone Camp, an activist group camped in solidarity with the Sioux tribe.

The campaign seeks sleeping bags, sheets, propane tanks, spray paint, insulated overalls and coveralls, ropes, heavy duty tarps, small wood stoves and gift cards for Menard’s or Lowe’s.

Bernice’s will collect donations starting at 7 p.m. every Monday until Nov. 21.
