COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — An Auburn Gresham man has been charged with murdering 20-year-old Kori Sellers in June.

Sellers was being driven to work when he stopped at a convenience store in the 8600 block of South Ashland Avenue about 6 p.m. June 4, Assistant State's Attorney Bryan Grissman said during a bond hearing Friday.

After purchasing several items, prosecutors said, Sellers returned to the front passenger seat of the car.

As the driver began to pull away from the convenience store, Lamar Kennedy pulled out a gun, reached into the car and began firing multiple shots toward Sellers, Grissman said.

The men did not know one another, according to prosecutors. Kennedy, 22, is listed in court documents as a member of the Gangster Disciple street gang.

Kennedy then ran away, prosecutors said, and the car's driver took Sellers to St. Bernard Hospital, where Sellers was pronounced dead. He'd been shot multiple times in his neck, arm and torso, Grissman said.

The entire incident was captured on surveillance footage. According to prosecutors, two witnesses were later able to identify Kennedy. Officers could clearly see Kennedy's face on surveillance tapes.

Kennedy, of the 400 block of West 79th Place, is charged with first-degree murder.

Cook County Judge Laura Sullivan on Friday denied Kennedy bail.
