Man Shot During Facebook Live Post This Year Was Killed In Friday Shooting

By Dong Jin Oh | October 31, 2016 12:30pm

CHICAGO — One of the victims in Friday night's Back of the Yards fatal shooting had earlier this year survived another shooting that he live-streamed on Facebook from his cellphone.

Brian Fields, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene of Friday's shooting with another victim, Chiquita Ford, 30, after they were shot in a car in the parking lot of a gas station in the 1900 block of West Garfield Boulevard.

Fields had previously been injured in a West Englewood shooting on March 31 as he was recording a Facebook Live video. In the video, Fields is talking to the camera while standing on a street corner in the 5500 block of South Hoyne Avenue when another man opens fire. (Warning: video is graphic)

Fields begins by saying that the corner store behind him reopened now that he's back in the area.

"I can't be out here without the store being open," he said.

Then a car pulls up and shots ring out, while the phone recording the video drops to the ground. The video then depicts a gunman standing over the man and repeatedly shooting.

Fields was hit multiple times and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, but had survived his injuries.

A 28-year-old man also captured his own fatal shooting via Facebook Live in June.
