CHICAGO — A Lyft driver was one of two men found shot to death near Goose Island late Wednesday, and the two murders might be related, officials said.

At 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, a 33-year-old man was shot in his head in the 800 block of North Racine Avenue, police said. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

He has been identified as Phillip Lewis, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office and his employer. Lewis, of south suburban Matteson, was a driver for Lyft and a father of a baby boy, according to his Facebook page.

A Lyft spokeswoman confirmed that Lewis had driven for them. The spokeswoman said Lewis was not driving for the company at the time of his death.

"It is always sad to lose a member of the Lyft community," Alexandra LaManna, Lyft spokeswoman, said in a statement. "Our thoughts are with Philip's loved ones during this difficult time."

Lewis was found dead hours before another man was killed near Goose Island, according to police.

At 12:18 a.m. Thursday, a 35-year-old man was shot to death in the area, police said.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired in the 1000 block of North Willard Court found the man in the driver's side of a parked car with a gunshot wound in his head, police said.

The shootings may be related, said Anthony Guglielmi, head Chicago Police Department spokesman. Detectives are working through both victim's background to determine any possible link between the killings, he said.

Police do not believe the killings were gang-related, Guglielmi said.
