WEST RIDGE — The Angry Crab reopened Tuesday after a series of failed health inspections caused the uber-popular seafood spot to close last week.

The restaurant, 5665 N. Lincoln Ave., was closed after an Oct. 18 inspection found critical violations of the city's health code, including failing to keep a walk-in cooler at a proper temperature for seafood, city records show.

The cooler was found to be at temperatures as high as 70.5 degrees, "with potentially hazardous food inside, including shrimp, oysters and clams," according to a city Health Department report. Inspectors found 12 total infractions, with six considered minor.

The Angry Crab passed a reinspection Tuesday, said the Chicago Department of Public Health. It reopened Tuesday at 3 p.m., according to an employee. Co-owner David Nguyen could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

On Friday, Nguyen said he hoped to reopen Monday after a "tuneup" to the cooler system. But the business failed a reinspection Friday after the city found that a walk-in cooler still  was not maintaining proper temperatures, city records show.

The Angry Crab, opened in February 2015, was an immediate success. It routinely sees customer lines down the block. It opened a Wicker Park location this summer.
